The NBU will lift restrictions on card transfers under certain conditions

The National Bank of Ukraine may cancel the limit on card-to-card transfers in the amount of 150,000 hryvnias in one or two months. About this reported Head of the NBU Andriy Pishnyi.

The head of the NBU noted that this limit by itself is not an effective tool for combating drop accounts. To solve the problem, a set of measures is necessary, including amendments to the legislation. According to Pyshnyi, one of these measures will be the implementation of a special register that will help detect drops. Its development is currently ongoing.

In his opinion, in addition to the actions of the NBU, banks should also improve their own internal control systems and apply a risk-oriented approach based on the “know your client” principle. He emphasized that drop accounts would not exist if banks had more carefully analyzed customer profiles during their registration and taken into account their transaction history.

“On February 1, a memorandum came into force, according to which banks defined the appropriate procedure for checking customers. In a month or two, we will see how the updated processes will work. If they are effective, the NBU, as promised, will cancel the limit of UAH 150,000 for card transfers”, – Pishnyy emphasized.
