In Poland, the number of attempts to illegally cross the border with Belarus has decreased by more than 90%

The Polish Ministry of the Interior stated that the number of attempts to illegally cross the border with Belarus has decreased by almost 96%. About this going in the department’s statement.

The Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that this result was achieved thanks to government policy, investments in security, as well as the temporary suspension of the right to asylum.

According to the latest data, during the first quarter of 2026, only 158 attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border were recorded. The ministry compared this figure with the same period in 2022, when 3,306 such attempts were registered.

Earlier this month, Poland extended the decision on a “buffer zone” on the border with Belarus, which was introduced to strengthen security control, for another three months.

Previously, Poland built a 5-meter fence equipped with surveillance equipment on the border with Belarus to more effectively deter illegal migrants. Its construction began shortly after the appearance of this route with the assistance of the Belarusian authorities in the summer of 2021.
