In Poltava region, a police officer hit two underage girls: investigation launched

A tragic traffic accident occurred in the city of Karlivtsi in Poltava Oblast on the evening of November 30, killing two 17-year-old sisters. The girls were returning on the road and moving along the shoulder when a Hyundai Tucson hit them.

According to preliminary information, the driver was a police officer who was driving his own car during off-duty hours. The impact was so severe that both minors died on the spot before the arrival of medics.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that the driver left the scene of the accident after the collision, but returned shortly after. According to initial data, the law enforcement officer may have been intoxicated, which is currently being checked by investigators. Prosecutors, experts, and an investigative and operational group worked at the scene of the incident, who recorded the circumstances of the accident and seized the materials necessary for the investigation.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of traffic rules by a driver in a state of intoxication, which led to the death of several people. Investigators are establishing a complete picture of the incident, expert examinations have been ordered, and witness interrogations and evidence collection are ongoing.
