In the Kharkiv region, a morgue employee was exposed for robbing dead Ukrainian soldiers
In the Kharkiv region, a morgue employee was exposed, who, according to the prosecutor’s office, embezzled gold jewelry and mobile phones from the bodies of dead Ukrainian servicemen. During the searches, a significant amount of jewelry and receipts from pawn shops were found in her possession. About it on August 26 reported the press service of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Under the procedural guidance of the Kupyan district prosecutor’s office of the Kharkiv region, the woman was informed of suspicion of theft, committed repeatedly under martial law, as well as of illegal possession of an object that was on the body of the deceased for selfish motives (part 4 of article 185, part 3 of article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation began after the wife of the deceased soldier, who, after receiving the man’s body from the morgue, discovered the disappearance of his wedding ring. She noted that the jewelry was in place before the body was handed over. In the course of the investigation, it was established that the junior nurse of the Chuguyiv branch of the Kharkiv Regional Bureau of Forensic Medical Examination was involved in the disappearance of the wedding ring. She systematically appropriated the personal belongings of fallen soldiers.
Mobile phones, chains, wedding rings and other valuables were among the stolen items. The suspect cut off some of the rings from the fingers of the deceased with the help of pliers. She gave the stolen things to pawn shops, receiving cash for them.
The woman acted out of selfish motives, realizing the illegality of her actions. Her actions not only violated the law, but also grossly disrespected moral norms and traditions of respectful treatment of the dead. During the search, law enforcement officers seized a significant amount of jewelry and receipts from pawn shops.
The investigation is currently ongoing: other victims are being identified and the involvement of other morgue employees in the crime is being investigated. Prosecutors will apply to the court with a request to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention for the suspect. Pre-trial investigation and operational support is carried out by the Kupyan RVP of the State Police in the Kharkiv region.
