In Transcarpathia, a man kept his wife chained to furniture for more than 10 days
In the village of Bilky in Transcarpathia, the police detained a 70-year-old man who is suspected of long-term violence against his wife. According to the investigation, the man kept the 68-year-old woman chained to the furniture in the summer kitchen. About this reported the police of Zakarpattia Oblast.
During the inspection of the farm, the law enforcement officers found a woman chained to the elements of the interior. According to the victim, she was deprived of her freedom almost two weeks ago. She spent all this time in a closed room, unable to get out on her own or ask for help.
The police quickly freed the woman, provided her with first aid and documented the facts of the violence. It was established that during this period the victim suffered not only restriction of will, but also physical injuries.
The man was charged with two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — illegal deprivation of liberty (Article 146) and inflicting light bodily harm (Article 125). Currently, investigative actions are ongoing, the question of choosing a preventive measure is being decided.
This case is another evidence of the large-scale problem of domestic violence in Ukraine. Earlier, a similar situation happened in Bukovina, where a mother chained her own 10-year-old son to his leg to keep him in the yard. The police also opened criminal proceedings on the fact of torturing a child.
