In Ukraine, from January 1, 2026, payments at the birth of a child have increased and new types of assistance for families have been introduced
From January 1, 2026, a law came into force in Ukraine that significantly updates the system of state support for families with children. The document provides for an increase in one-time assistance at the birth of a child to 50 thousand hryvnias, and also establishes new standards of payments for pregnant women and mothers in labor. This is stated in the announcement on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
The law also introduces the launch of new digital services to support parents – “e-Nursery” and “e-Kindergarten”, updates the “Baby Package” program and introduces special payments to prepare children for school. All this, according to the legislators, should comprehensively change the approach to social protection of families with children.
Assistance to pregnant women and mothers in childbirth
Amount of payments during maternity leave now depends on the woman’s employment status.
-
Women who do not have official employment will receive a fixed monthly payment of 7,000 hryvnias.
-
The state will compensate officially employed women for 100% of their average income over the last 12 months.
-
For military personnel, police officers and representatives of other special categories are provided with a payment in the amount of 100% of the average monthly cash benefit.
The funds are accrued for the standard period of maternity leave – 70 days before the birth of a child and 56 days after childbirth. In the case of the birth of two or more children or the occurrence of complications, the postpartum payment period is extended to 70 days.
Payments after birth and “Baby Package”
After the birth of a child, the family is entitled to the following types of support:
-
50,000 hryvnias is a one-time state benefit that is paid regardless of the account on which the child was born.
-
7,000 hryvnias is a monthly payment during the first year of the child’s life. For children with disabilities, the amount of this benefit has been increased to 10,500 hryvnias.
In addition to cash payments, families receive a “Baby Package.” Parents can choose between a set of necessary items for the baby or cash compensation. You can receive the “package” from the 36th week of pregnancy or within three months after the birth of the child.
New programs: “eJasla” and «eKindergarten»
The law also introduces new financial instruments for parents who combine raising children with work.
The «eKindergarten» program applies to children aged 1 to 3. Parents who work full-time will receive 8,000 hryvnias per month. If the child has a disability, the amount of the payment will be 12,000 hryvnias.
The «eKindergarten» program will start in 2028 and will apply to children aged 3 to 6. A payment of 8,000 hryvnias will be provided in cases where the community was unable to secure a place for a child in a municipal kindergarten or did not implement the principle of “money follows the child”.
«Student Package»
A separate one-time benefit of 5,000 is provided hryvnias for first-grade students. The “Schoolchild Package” is a targeted financial support intended to cover the costs of stationery, clothing, shoes, and books for children going to school.
The Verkhovna Rada supported the bill on enhanced support for families before and after the birth of a child in the first reading on August 19. On November 14, the document was signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
