In Ukraine, the volume of cargo transportation fell by 12.6%: State Statistics Service
In the period from January to July 2025, the volume of cargo transportation decreased by 12.6% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 181.2 million tons. This is discussed in the report of the State Statistics Service.
At the same time, freight turnover during this time showed an even more significant drop – by 13.5%, to the level of 94.37 billion tons/km. If it was possible to reduce the backlog from 2024 figures by 0.8% in terms of cargo volume in July, the backlog in terms of freight turnover, on the contrary, increased by the same 0.8%.
The main share of cargo, as before, is transported by railway transport – 92.5 million tons, which is 11% less than in seven months last year. Freight turnover by railway amounted to 59.66 billion tons/km, i.e. 11.8% lower than last year’s level. In “Ukrzaliznytsia” explain the sharper drop in freight turnover by the increase in the share of shorter transports in the direction of ports.
For this period, road transport transported 66.7 million tons, which is also 11% less than last year. However, the decrease in freight traffic here amounted to only 4%, which indicates an increase in the average distance of road transport. Pipeline transport for seven months of this year provided transportation of 21.5 million tons, which means a decrease of 21.6%. Its freight turnover fell even more significantly – by 29.2%.
An insignificant share fell on water transport – only 0.5 million tons, which is 45.3% of the level of January-July 2024. Air transport through closed skies remains almost invisible in the structure of transportation – 0.02 million tons, which is 19.8% less than last year.
