EU and the world

India has officially rejected the US demand to stop buying Russian oil

India will continue to buy Russian oil, even with 50% US tariffs on Indian companies, because it benefits the country. This was stated by Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, reports Bloomberg.

“Where we buy oil from, especially such a large commodity for which we pay the most in imports, we have to decide based on what is most profitable for us. We will definitely buy, Sitharaman emphasized.

Thus, New Delhi intends to ignore US President Donald Trump’s demands to stop the supply. The minister’s statement was made against the background of the fact that India continues to increase its purchases of Russian oil. The country’s authorities emphasize that they will continue to do this as long as the economic benefit remains.

India has become the largest buyer of Russian oil delivered by sea. Thanks to significant discounts on raw materials, which were refused by the West, the country was able to reduce the cost of imports, while at the same time financing the Russian war against Ukraine. Such a policy caused irritation in Washington. The US has raised tariffs on India to 50%, one of the highest levels in the world.

At the same time, Donald Trump once again criticized India and Russia, accusing them of increasing cooperation with China despite international pressure:

“It seems we have lost India and Russia to the deep, dark and mysterious Chinese Empire”.
