Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei likely dead: media

On the evening of February 28, reports appeared in the world media about the possible death of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to data Reuters, citing a senior Israeli official, his body was allegedly found under the rubble after an airstrike on Iranian territory.

Previously, similar information was disseminated by Israeli media. An Israeli official said that Ali Khamenei could have died as a result of a morning airstrike on his residence in Tehran. According to Israel’s Channel 9, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was shown a video recording of a body pulled from the rubble of a building.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “there are increasing signs that Khamenei is no longer alive.” It was also reported that his relatives and secretary may have been killed in the strike.

Netanyahu appealed to the citizens of Iran to seize the situation.

“People of Iran, do not miss this opportunity. This is a once-in-a-generation chance. Take to the streets. Overthrow your murderous regime. We are with you,” he said.

At the same time, official Tehran has not yet confirmed the information about the death of the supreme leader. Iranian representatives have previously called such reports “psychological warfare” and stated that Khamenei is safe.

According to Iranian media, Khamenei’s speech scheduled for the evening has been canceled. This was announced on social networks by the Minister of Culture of Iran. The leader was expected to address the nation, but no video or audio address was released.

As of the evening of February 28, 2026, there has been no official confirmation of Ali Khamenei’s death from the Iranian authorities.
