Putin trains Russia’s strategic deterrence forces: nuclear ballistic and cruise missile launches were practised

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, announced the start of training of the strategic deterrence forces of the Russian Federation, within the framework of which it is planned to launch nuclear ballistic and cruise missiles. As the press service of the Kremlin reported, these exercises will include practicing the actions of officials responsible for the management of nuclear weapons, as well as their coordination during the use of strategic weapons.

According to Putin’s statement, practical launches of various types of missiles will take place during the maneuvers, which will demonstrate the readiness of the Russian forces to act in the event of a threat to the security of the state. The main test sites, according to experts, can become strategic training grounds, such as Kamchatka or the Plesetsk cosmodrome, as well as underwater bases, from where launches from submarines will be carried out.

Putin stressed that the exercise aims to show the ability of the nuclear triad (air, ground and sea components) to act as a single system, which he believes remains a reliable pillar of Russian sovereignty. He emphasized again that the use of nuclear weapons is considered as an extreme measure to ensure the security of the state, but in the event of such a need, Russia is ready to use all available means of deterrence.

This statement was made against the background of worsening relations between Russia and Western countries, which increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine and continue economic pressure on the Kremlin. The maneuvers also take place against the background of increased NATO activity in Eastern Europe, where the countries of the Alliance conduct their military exercises and strengthen the defense capabilities of the region.
