Holidays and commemorative dates:

International Day of Cooperatives – celebrated since 1993 on the initiative of the UN. The holiday is designed to draw the attention of the world public to cooperatives and to promote the expansion of partnership between the international cooperative movement and other subjects of international law, including governments and non-governmental organizations at all levels.

World Architecture Day and Architecture Day of Ukraine – established in 1985 at the initiative of the International Union of Architects, which arose in 1946, after the Second World War, when it was necessary to rebuild the countries on whose territory hostilities were taking place.

It has been celebrated in Ukraine since 1995. On this day, the awarding and presentation of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of architecture is held.

Investigator’s Day in Ukraine – celebrated since 1998.  The date was chosen because on July 1, 1963, the Ministry of Internal Affairs received the right to conduct a preliminary investigation. Since then, investigators have gained procedural independence.

Events on this day:

1569 — The Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland signed the Union of Lublin on the creation of a Polish-Lithuanian federal state, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

1751 – the first volume of the “Encyclopedia, or Interpretive Dictionary of Sciences, Arts and Crafts”, published by Denis Diderot and Jean Leron d’Alembert, was printed. In 30 years, 35 volumes of the encyclopedia were published. The most prominent representatives of the Enlightenment century took part in the compilation of the encyclopedia: in addition to the publishers, they were Voltaire, Rousseau, Montesquieu, Helvetius and others.

On July 1, 1989, the founding conference of the Kyiv branch of the People’s Movement of Ukraine for Perestroika was held in Kyiv.

Already on September 8-10, 1989, the constituent assembly of the People’s Movement of Ukraine for Development was held. It included collective and individual members of the organization, including communists. The Ukrainian capital, like most of the regional centers of Ukraine, became the center of the first mass democratic organization in the country, which was to become an alternative to the CPSU, although the Movement was created as a public organization.

Poet Ivan Drach was elected as the first head of the NRU. In 1993, the Movement turned into a political party.

2013 — Croatia joined the European Union.

2014 — the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine founded the Order of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.
