On June 2, 1953, the coronation ceremony of Elizabeth II took place in Westminster Abbey. The Queen was presented with symbols of power, and the Archbishop of Canterbury put on her a crown weighing 2,200 grams. It was the first coronation of a British monarch to be televised (the coronation was broadcast live on the BBC). It is believed that this event significantly contributed to the growth of the popularity of television broadcasting. The admission of television became the main feature of the ceremony, sanctified by age-old traditions.
