June 20: holidays and events on this day

Holidays and commemorative dates:
World Refugee Day – launched by the United Nations in honor of the strength, courage and endurance of millions of refugees around the world. This holiday was first celebrated in 2001, on the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.
Ukraine joined the UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees of 1951 and the Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees of 1967 in 2001, adapting its legislation to these international documents.
World Refugee Day is an opportunity to remember those who are forced to leave their homes, families, work and friends because of danger and seek refuge in foreign countries. After the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, more than 5 million Ukrainians were forced to leave abroad.
World Day for the Protection of Elephants in Zoos – elephants need large living spaces, not the limited enclosures of zoos. They can get sick and die from lack of movement and abuse. On this day, events are organized to raise funds to improve the living conditions of elephants, in particular actions in zoos, with the aim of transferring elephants to nature reserves.
World Wi-Fi Day – is a global initiative aimed at solving the problem of the lack of wireless high-speed Internet in many countries (about 4 billion people on the planet do not have access to the Internet), overcoming digital inequality and developing technologies.
Lambrusco Day – Italian Lambrusco wines peaked in popularity in the 1970s, but later lost their place among favorites due to changes in wine fashion. Italian winemakers and their colleagues around the world celebrate Lambrusco Day every year on June 21 to promote these wines because Lambrusco is able to give a sense of the Italian sweet life.
Events on this day:
1918 – the All-Ukrainian Church Council began in Kyiv.
1919 – the military delegation of the Ukrainian People’s Republic signed a peace treaty with the Poles;
1939 – the first ever flight of a jet aircraft took place – a German experimental aircraft with a Heinkel He.176 rocket engine.
1990 – The German Bundestag decided to move the capital from Bonn to Berlin.
1993 – the first test train flight through the Channel Tunnel was launched.
2000 – the Expert Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine was created.
The Expert Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine was established by Resolution No. 988 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated June 20, 2000.

In general, the first expert forensic organizations are considered to be the “Identification Bureau”, created by Alphonse Bertillon in the French police of Surte. In Ukraine, such a unit was created on April 14, 1902 in Kyiv as an anthropometric office under the city detective police. On January 1, 1904, it began to work as a dactyloscopic office.
In Kharkiv and Katerynoslav, subdivisions with the tasks of identification of persons, as well as the study of material evidence, were created in 1908. Later, criminologists began to study such disciplines as anthropometry, verbal portraiture, dactyloscopy.
Did you know that at one time there were even criminal prosecutors? They were entrusted with organizational and methodical work to improve the quality of the investigation, in addition, they were obliged to go with the investigators to the places where particularly serious and dangerous crimes were committed to inspect the scene, and also participated in the initial investigative actions in these cases.
Practically, the prosecutor-criminologist participated in pre-trial proceedings not as a supervisor, because as a methodologist and analyst, he provided assistance in the investigation of serious or socially significant crimes. At the same time, unlike the prosecutor, who only supervises the course of the investigation, he was an active participant in the collection and research of evidentiary information when he went to the scene of the incident.
2003 – the Wikimedia Foundation was created.
