Kallas said that the EU has not yet agreed on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia and a loan for Ukraine

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, said that the European Union is continuing to work on the adoption of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, as well as on providing Ukraine with a loan of 90 billion euros. She said that she could not yet share “good news” on this issue. At the same time, she said that she could not share “good news” on this issue at the moment. She stated this during a conversation with journalists in Bucha on March 31.

“Yes, we have some obstacles on the way regarding the 20th sanctions package, as well as regarding the loan repayment. Work on overcoming them is ongoing, but, unfortunately, I cannot report good news today. We are still working and hope to receive this decision at the next European Council,” the head of European diplomacy emphasized.

In the EU were expected to introduce the 20th package of sanctions against Russia on February 24, the fourth anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion. However, this decision is being blocked by Hungary, which has also been joined by Slovakia.

The provision of a 90 billion euro EU loan to Ukraine is also being blocked by the Hungarian government, which demands that Kyiv resume oil transit via the Druzhba pipeline, which was halted after being damaged by Russian shelling.

On March 31, the speakers of parliaments and foreign ministers of the EU countries arrived in Ukraine for the Bucha Summit and visited Bucha on the anniversary of the city’s liberation from Russian occupation.
