Kharkiv to declare March 9 a day of mourning for those killed in Russian missile attack

Kharkov plans to declare a day of mourning on March 9 for those killed in the Russian missile attack that occurred on the night of March 7. This was reported by the city council.

According to him, the decision on mourning will be announced after the completion of search and rescue operations at the scene of the tragedy. The city authorities expect them to continue for some time.

“The days of mourning will definitely be announced. I want to say something about the logic so that everyone understands. First, search and rescue operations are ongoing. In my opinion, they will continue today, as you understand. “The rescuers and our municipal services tell me that it will continue tomorrow as well. Therefore, I believe that we will declare days of mourning from Monday, March 9,” Terekhov said.

On the night of March 7, a Russian missile hit a five-story apartment building in the Kyivsky district of Kharkiv. As a result of the impact, one of the entrances to the building was completely destroyed.

As of the morning of March 7, eight people were known to have died. Among them are a 13-year-old girl, a 9-year-old boy, as well as a 65-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man.

According to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleg Synegubov, a total of 15 people were injured. Four of them were hospitalized. Among the wounded is an 11-year-old boy who is in intensive care with serious injuries. His 6-year-old brother received bruises, his condition is assessed by doctors as satisfactory. Also among the injured are women aged 55, 80, 75, 58, 60 and 58, a 55-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl.

According to Synegubov, Russia attacked Kharkiv three times that night. Enterprises, critical infrastructure facilities, and a residential building were hit. At least 17 buildings were damaged as a result of the attack.

The search and rescue operation at the site of the attack is ongoing. According to preliminary data from the regional prosecutor’s office, the residential building may have been hit by an Izdeliye-30 missile. Law enforcement officers have launched a pre-trial investigation.
