The “Book of Records of Ukraine” officially recorded a new achievement – the largest Ukrainian towel assembled from LEGO bricks. The authors of this record are students of the Kyiv “Inventor School” lyceum, Ukrinform reports.
The towel with the inscription “Language is the spiritual wealth of the people” measures 6.6 by 1.2 meters and consists of 15,332 construction blocks. About 400 people – students, parents and teachers – participated in its creation. The process of folding the towel continued during the first school day and symbolized unity and joint work in support and popularization of the Ukrainian language.
“This outstanding achievement will not only emphasize the importance of the Ukrainian language, but will also be positive and inspiring news for all of us. This is not only an educational event, but also a symbol of our stability, unity and cultural heritage, which needs to be protected and popularized.”, – noted the director of the lyceum Alina Arkhipova.
According to her, educators noticed a tendency to decrease the use of the Ukrainian language outside of school, so the project became an initiative where students could influence their environment. The children became ambassadors of the language, passing on the important habit of speaking Ukrainian to their parents and friends.
“The fact that the children felt that they could be a small particle in a big system is a very powerful story for them that motivates them”, – believes Arkhipova.
Language ombudsman Taras Kremin emphasized that such innovative projects, with the support of national and international organizations, contribute to the strengthening of national interests.
“I believe that the record-breaking towels collected by students of this Kyiv school can definitely be reproduced in all Ukrainian schools that have taken and continue to participate in international projects in the context of the New Ukrainian School”, he said.
The official also expressed the opinion that by the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, schools across Ukraine could try to set a world record, demonstrating that Ukrainians are not only a nation of heroes, but also a great force capable of covering the whole world. The towel can be made of any materials, depending on the choice of educational institutions.
“A Ukrainian towel from Ukrainians is a charm for the whole civilized world”, – noted Kremin.
