This year, agricultural imports to Ukraine increased by 10%

In January-June 2025, Ukraine imported agricultural products worth 4,262 million dollars. USA, which is 10% more than in the same period of 2024. About this informs Institute of Agrarian Economics (IAE).

The commodity structure of agricultural imports as a whole remains stable, but since 2022, in connection with hostilities and the occupation of part of the southern territories of Ukraine, vegetables have been added to the key import items.

The study states that the import of fruit and berry products is mainly formed due to citrus fruits, bananas, other exotic fruits and nuts. In the first half of 2025, it reached 472 million dollars. USA, which is 14% higher than last year.

In the structure of import of fish, crustaceans and molluscs, the total volume of which amounted to 444 million dollars. In the USA, the largest share is taken by frozen fish — 196 million dollars. “The lion’s share of imports – 304 million US dollars – was formed due to strong alcoholic beverages, wines and beer”, – clarified the experts.

The value of vegetable imports increased by 64% and amounted to 355 million dollars. USA. “Ukrainian importing companies put the main emphasis on the purchase of tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, sweet peppers, products whose own supply usually decreased after the end of last year’s harvest or due to unexpected reductions in production volumes,” the experts noted.

Purchases of food products, extracts, concentrates, ready-made sauces, etc. amounted to 277 million dollars. USA, which is 2% more than in the first half of 2024. The import of cocoa products increased by 29% to 265 million dollars. USA. Deliveries of seeds and fruits of oil crops reached 260 million dollars. “The increase in the value of agricultural imports to Ukraine at this stage is due to the stable demand for the main product groups of food of foreign origin, as well as the general increase in their prices”, – explained in IAE.

Scientists predict that if the current trends are maintained in the second half of 2025, the third consecutive increase in the volume of import purchases of agricultural products should be expected against the background of the ongoing full-scale war.
