Latvia will transfer 21 Patria armored personnel carriers to Ukraine
On November 6, Latvia will transfer 21 Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers of its own production, equipped with machine guns and ammunition, to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Latvia, Andris Spruds.
“From the first day of the Russian invasion, Latvia has supported the efforts of Ukraine and its defenders in defending its country. The donation of Latvian-made armored personnel carriers is a significant support for the defenders of Ukraine and an opportunity to test the strength and capabilities of Latvian-made armored vehicles on a real battlefield, Andris Spruds noted.
The Latvian Ministry of Defense reported that the last batch of 21 Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers will be received by Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal at the military base in Adazi. The vehicles are equipped with NATO-standard 12.7 mm caliber support machine guns and ammunition kits.
Along with the armored personnel carriers, the Ukrainian military will receive spare parts, special repair tools and equipment for their maintenance, as well as a mobile container-type repair workshop and technical documentation. Additionally, kits will be transferred to repair combat damage to equipment.
Earlier, the Latvian government decided to transfer 42 Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers and other military equipment to Ukraine. It is expected that in 2025, the volume of Latvian military assistance to Ukraine will reach 0.3% of GDP. In addition, the country continues to implement a training program for Ukrainian military personnel.
