Law enforcement officers are investigating the alleged embezzlement of 2.8 million hryvnias on the construction of a memorial in Irpen

Law enforcement officers are investigating an alleged scheme of embezzlement of budget funds during the construction of the “Alley of Memory of the Defenders of Ukraine” memorial in Irpen. According to the investigation, the city council may have overpaid 2.8 million hryvnias in the process of purchasing the monuments. This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to the investigation, officials of the Irpin City Council could have acted in collusion with representatives of a private company and organized a purchase with a predetermined winner.

As law enforcement officers note, the company installed 75 tombstones for the memorial. According to the prosecutor’s office, they were “imported from China for about 12 thousand hryvnias per unit,” but the cost to the local budget was 80 thousand hryvnias.

As a result, almost 6 million hryvnias were paid for the supply of the monuments. Of this amount, more than 2.8 million hryvnias, according to the investigation, may constitute a possible overpayment.

At present, suspicion has been declared against the representative of the company, the public procurement officer, as well as the former deputy mayor of Irpin.

The prosecutor’s office reported that a pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Part 5 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – embezzlement of budget funds in especially large amounts.
