Law enforcement officers detained a fitness trainer for setting fire to military vehicles in Odesa, Dnipro and Kyiv

During the search of the detainee's apartment, a mobile phone with evidence of his communication with the Russian game was seized.

The Security Service of Ukraine together with the National Police detained an agent of the military intelligence of the Russian Federation, who set fire to military vehicles in Kyiv, Dnipro and Odesa. By information The SBU, a Russian special service, remotely controlled a 32-year-old fitness trainer from Odesa, who was looking for a quick income through the Internet.

The agent of the Russian Federation set fire to official vehicles of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, in particular, military SUVs, pickups and multivans. During several days, he tried to destroy six vehicles in three cities of Ukraine. One of the documented cases occurred in Kyiv, where he set fire to a multivan of the Armed Forces. Podpal recorded the arson on the camera of his phone in order to transmit the video to the Russian curator for information and psychological operations.

The agent received instructions from a representative of the GRU of the Russian Federation, with whom he was in direct contact. He rented apartments, bought flammable liquids and matches, and disguised himself in dark clothes and a hat to avoid being recognized.

SBU officers detained him in Odesa. During the search of his apartment, a mobile phone with evidence of connection with Russian intelligence was seized.

The perpetrator was notified of the suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (obstructing the legitimate activities of the Armed Forces and other military formations during a special period). He faces up to 8 years in prison. Currently, the issue of additional qualification of his criminal actions is being resolved.

The operation was carried out by SBU employees in the city of Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast together with the SBU in Odesa Oblast and the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
