Law enforcement officers discovered the theft of 2.5 million UAH during the renovation of the Odessa Zoo
During the overhaul of the heating system with the replacement of boiler equipment at the Odessa Zoo, according to the investigation, 2.5 million hryvnias were overpaid to the contractor from the local budget. This was reported by the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police of Ukraine.
Law enforcement officers found out that in accordance with the contract concluded between the municipal institution “Odessa Zoological Park of National Importance” and a private company, the contractor was to carry out a major overhaul of the heating system with the replacement of boiler equipment. The total estimated cost of the work exceeded 4.7 million hryvnias.
However, during the work, the director of the contracting company, according to the investigation, decided to seize funds allocated from the local budget for repairs.
“The man personally drew up and signed official documents, in which he entered knowingly false information in the form of an overestimation of the cost of the work, the list and materials used,” the report says.
For his part, the local certified entrepreneur, who was authorized to carry out technical supervision and control over the status of the work performed, approved the acceptance certificates for construction work.
As a result, almost 2.5 million hryvnias more was unjustifiably transferred from the budget to the account of the contracting company, which, according to the police, was confirmed by an expert opinion.
