Microsoft Unveils AI Voice Assistant for Doctors

Microsoft company presented a new voice assistant for doctors, which combines the dictation capabilities of Dragon Medical One and the ambient listening of DAX Copilot.

Dubbed Dragon Copilot, the tool will help doctors quickly get the information they need and automatically create clinical records, referrals and other documents. This is part of the company’s strategy to reduce the administrative burden, which is a key factor in medical worker burnout.

According to Google Cloud, doctors spend up to 28 hours a week on administrative work, including document management. Dragon Copilot will allow them to spend more time with patients while minimizing data entry costs. The technology supports natural language editing of records and the ability to request information about diagnoses and treatments.

Microsoft became a key player in the field of automation of medical records after the acquisition in 2021 of the company Nuance Communications, the developer of these technologies. DAX Copilot is already used in more than 3 million patient visits. The updated interface will help Microsoft compete with Abridge and Suki.

Dragon Copilot will be available in mobile app, browser and desktop. Doctors will be able to use it to automatically maintain records and quickly process medical data. The system will launch in the US and Canada in May 2025, with further expansion to other countries.
