Ministry of Defense: keeping one soldier of the Armed Forces without weapons costs 1.2 million hryvnias

According to the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Dzhigyr, keeping one soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine without a weapon costs the state 30 thousand dollars, which is equivalent to 1.2 million hryvnias. However, Dzhigir did not specify what period of time such statistics cover.

That’s what he’s about reported in a Bloomberg comment.

Regarding the defense budget, the official noted that the cost of the mobilization campaign will depend on several factors. In particular, from the number of people who will join the army every month, as well as the decision of the command regarding rotations. Financial assistance provided by partners will also be affected.

Yuriy Dzhigyr also stated that the new procurement system helped to “eliminate corruption risks.” “The Russian invasion highlighted a number of concrete corruption risks in the department,” he noted.

According to Yuriy Dzhigyra, the inspection led to the creation of a “two-tier mechanism” for procurement at the Ministry of Defense: the agency determines procurement policy, monitors and checks quality, while two state-owned companies supervise procurement in an effort to reduce potential risks.

The ministry is also working with American counterparts in efforts to address concerns about how Ukrainian forces store and use Western munitions.

Yuriy Dzhigyr reported that there have already been six joint inspections at military facilities, which studied how certain types of weapons are stored.

“The process is ongoing, it has already become a routine. The mechanism is working,” he said.

Previously in interview ArmiyaInform Yuriy Dzhigyr reported that payments to military personnel in 2024 will amount to 70% of the budget Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Another 20% goes shopping military equipment and weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
