Musk’s aides blocked civil servants from accessing the federal database

Elon Musk’s aides, who run the US government’s human resources department, have blocked career civil servants from accessing computer systems containing the personal data of millions of federal employees. About this informs Reuters.

Some senior career employees of the US Office of Personnel Management were denied access to certain information systems of the agency. Among the blocked resources was a large database called “Enterprise Human Resources Integration”, which contains dates of birth, social security numbers, certifications, home addresses, salary levels and seniority of civil servants.

“We have no idea what they’re doing with the computer and the data systems. It’s a big concern. There’s no oversight. It creates real threats to cyber security and hacking.” – said one of the officials.

Those affected by the restriction can still use certain functions, such as email, but have lost access to large swaths of data related to the entire federal workforce.

In addition, the Office of Personnel Management sent out memoranda, the content of which differs from the usual formal government communications. In them, civil servants are urged to consider buyout offers in order to resign or take a leave of absence to go to their “dream destination.”

We will remind that after taking office as president, Donald Trump started a large-scale renewal of the government. He has sacked and suspended hundreds of civil servants as part of his first moves to cut red tape and appoint more loyal people.
