The US Postal Service has suspended the acceptance of parcels from Chinese online stores

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has temporarily stopped accepting packages from China and Hong Kong. The decision comes after Donald Trump revoked special trade status that allowed retailers to send low-value packages to the US duty-free. About this informs Reuters.

The Trump administration imposed an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods, which took effect on February 4. In addition, the preferential regime “de minimis” was abolished. This rule allowed American buyers to receive parcels worth up to $800 without paying duty. In 2024, the number of such shipments reached 4 million every day.

The restrictions came amid Trump’s repeated claims that China was not doing enough to stop the supply of fentanyl, a dangerous synthetic opioid, to the US.

At the same time, the USPS clarified that these changes will not affect the delivery of letters and “flat” items from China and Hong Kong, the dimensions of which do not exceed 38 cm in length and 1.9 cm in thickness. However, the company did not immediately comment on whether this decision was related to the cancellation of the “de minimis” regime.

Despite the new restrictions, some international courier services, including FedEx and China’s SF Express, said they were continuing to deliver packages to the US.
