NABU exposed the abuse of the ex-deputy head of the State Fiscal Service

The National Anti-corruption Bureau (NABU) has informed the former deputy head of the State Fiscal Service (FSS) of suspicion of abuse of official position, which caused grave consequences. His actions caused losses to the state of 641 million hryvnias, informs NABU press office.

In the course of the pre-trial investigation, it was established that in June 2017, the official, acting in the interests of a certain business entity, deliberately did not sign a decision within the prescribed period based on the results of the review of the taxpayer’s complaint on the tax notices-decisions of the territorial bodies of the Federal Tax Service. Because of this inaction, in accordance with the Tax Code of Ukraine, the complaint was automatically resolved in favor of the payer.

To hide his actions, the employee created the appearance of not being able to sign the decision. He was the only authorized person in the SFS who had the right to sign such documents. Due to the abuse of official duties, the state lost the right to demand payment of taxes and fines for more than 641 million hryvnias.

The Investigating Judge of the VAKS imposed a preventive measure on the suspect in the form of a bail of almost 10 million hryvnias. According to ch. 1 Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and confirmed by a court verdict.
