New French Foreign Minister arrives in Kyiv on a visit

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro arrived in Kyiv on Saturday, October 19, making his first official visit to Ukraine in this position. About this informs edition of Leparisien.

Barro is in Ukraine on a two-day visit and has already held a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiga. The main purpose of his trip is to confirm France’s support for Ukraine, to discuss the Victory Plan for Ukraine, the situation at the front and the living conditions of Ukrainians during the war.

On the eve of the visit, Barro said on French radio that his mission is to convey France’s position on Ukraine’s unwavering support in the fight against the crisis. The diplomat emphasized that not only the security of Ukraine is at stake, but also the security of the entire continent, in particular food and energy.

The visit is Jean-Noel Barrot’s first as French foreign minister, since he was appointed to the post in September 2024, following the formation of a new government by Prime Minister Michel Barnier.

France remains one of the most active partners of Ukraine, providing significant military aid. Artillery, armored vehicles, missiles and other weapons have already been transferred. In addition, training for Ukrainian servicemen is taking place on the territory of France.

Earlier in Paris, readiness to transfer Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine was announced. French President Emmanuel Macron is also in favor of sending instructors to Ukraine for further support, but this initiative has not yet received wide support among allies.
