Конгресмен із Флориди Майкл Волтц, якого Дональд Трамп обрав на посаду радника з національної безпеки, виступив із критикою рішення адміністрації Джо Байдена дозволити Україні використовувати протипіхотні міни для стримування російських військ. Про це повідомляє The Hill. Майкл Волтц охарактеризував ситуацію на фронті як “абсолютну м’ясорубку” людей і техніки, яка нагадує бої часів Першої світової війни. За його словами, використання протипіхотних мін лише погіршує ситуацію, створюючи додаткові гуманітарні загрози й ускладнюючи пошук ефективного вирішення конфлікту. “Президент Трамп неймовірно стурбований бійнею і питанням, як відновити стримування і як забезпечити мир”, – сказав Волтц, додавши, що Трамп розглядає потенційні дипломатичні важелі для змушення Росії сісти за стіл переговорів. Конгресмен раніше заявляв, що Дональд Трамп, у разі повернення на посаду президента, змусить Росію до переговорів, погрожуючи економічними санкціями, здатними “зруйнувати її економіку”. Волтц також неодноразово виступав із критикою військової допомоги Україні, акцентуючи увагу на необхідності зменшення ескалації конфлікту та пошуку альтернативних рішень.
