Nine NATO countries will train a Ukrainian Armed Forces brigade in Poland

Lithuania, together with eight NATO countries, signed a memorandum on the training and equipping of a brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at a training center that has been operating in Poland since the beginning of October. This was reported by the Lithuanian broadcaster LRT with reference to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.

The participating states will provide assistance, which will include the supply of weapons, equipment and training for Ukrainian servicemen. This will allow the Ukrainian brigade to be trained in accordance with modern NATO standards.

Lithuania will provide a mobile training group, training ammunition and grenades as part of this initiative. In addition, Vilnius will provide the Ukrainian brigade with anti-drone equipment and night vision devices of its own production worth about 12 million euros.

The OP-LEGIO training center began operating on October 1 in Poland, 160 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The initiative is led by Norway, and joined by Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Finland, and Sweden. The Ukrainian government also determined the procedure for sending servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard to the joint NATO-Ukraine JATEC center, which is located in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz.

As a reminder, in the fall of 2024, the EU Council extended the mandate of the EUMAM Ukraine training mission for another two years, until November 15, 2026.
