Norway allocates $9.5 million for the evacuation of seriously injured Ukrainians for treatment in Europe

Norway allocates 100 million Norwegian kroner (approximately 9.5 million dollars) to continue the program of evacuation of seriously wounded Ukrainians for treatment in European clinics. About this informs edition of VG.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Haar Støre said that providing medical aid to seriously injured Ukrainians is extremely important, and noted that the country has a specially equipped aircraft and a qualified crew that can perform this difficult mission at a high level.

“It is very important that some of the seriously wounded Ukrainians are taken out for treatment. We have an aircraft and a crew that have great international recognition to be able to do this work.”, – said the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Har Støre.

A specially converted SAS aircraft, which serves as a kind of “flying hospital”, has been evacuating Ukrainian patients for further treatment in European countries since August 2022. The agreement between Norway and the EU was originally scheduled to end in November this year, but has now been extended until April next year. The cost of the program will be about 9.5 million dollars.

“Unfortunately, the demand is still high. That’s why we continue our initiative”, – explained Store.

According to him, with the help of this plane, it was possible to evacuate almost half of all seriously injured Ukrainian patients, which is 1,931 people. Among them are patients with oncological diseases, as well as people with combat wounds, severe burns and broken limbs.

Most of the evacuees are first brought to Poland, and then distributed to hospitals in various European countries. About 400 patients from these flights received medical care directly in Norway.
