Norway plans to restrict the sale of energy drinks to youth under 16

The Norwegian Board of Health is in favor of introducing an age limit for the sale of energy drinks — at least 16 years old. About this informs ABC News.

The head of the institution, Linda Granlund, confirmed that the department supports the initiative to ban the sale of energy products to children under 16 years of age. At the same time, the department believes that in the long term it is worth considering raising the age threshold.

“We also agree that in the future it may be appropriate to consider a higher age limit, as young people aged 16 to 18 may also experience adverse health effects from high caffeine consumption,” Granlund said.

She added that 16-18-year-olds are the main consumers of energy drinks among all age groups. “Therefore, it is important to assess the impact of this regulation in order to make adjustments if necessary,” Granlund emphasized.

It will be recalled that on June 11, French President Emmanuel Macron said that in the absence of progress at the EU level, he will promise to ban access to social networks for children under the age of 15 in the coming months. In particular, he said that in the near future, his country will introduce age verification on websites that sell knives online — by analogy with the mechanisms that are already used for porn sites.
