Oleksandr Okipnyuk won a historic victory at the first stage of the Ski Acrobatics World Cup
Olexander Okipnyuk won the World Cup in ski acrobatics, which was a historic victory for Ukraine. The first stage of the season took place in the Finnish resort of Ruts. This was reported by the NOC of Ukraine.
According to the results of the qualification, two Ukrainians reached the final – Okipnyuk and Dmytro Kotovsky. In the qualification, Okipnyuk showed the sixth result with a total of 115.84 points and managed to make it to the superfinal, while Kotovsky took seventh place with 109.29 points and did not get into the fight for medals.
In the superfinal heat, Okipnyuk performed a jump with a difficulty of 5.1 and scored 130.56 points, which brought him a sensational victory. He was ahead of his closest pursuer, Swiss Pirmin Werner, by more than twenty points and set his own career record.
This victory made Okipnyuk the third Ukrainian athlete to win a World Cup stage in ski acrobatics. Previously, such successes were on the account of Dmytro Kotovsky (two victories) and Olympic champion Oleksandr Abramenko (five successes).
