Orban stressed that the war in the Middle East has made the Druzhba oil pipeline even more important to him
After the outbreak of war in the Middle East, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that the issue of Russian oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline had become even more important to him. He published his statement on the X social network.
On the day when war broke out in the Middle East between the United States and Israel and Iran, the head of the Hungarian government noted that he now attaches even greater importance to supplies through the Druzhba pipeline.
“The war with the participation of Iran has doubled the importance of the Druzhba oil pipeline. Once again, I call on President Zelensky to immediately resume oil supplies to Hungary,” said Viktor Orban.
Previously, Hungary and Slovakia has repeatedly claimed that Ukraine has stopped oil transportation through the Druzhba pipeline for political reasons, the infrastructure of which was damaged by one of the Russian shellings in late January.
The two countries have agreed to form an investigative commission to check the condition of the Druzhba pipeline and intend to seek access to the site of the damage.
After talking with Zelensky on February 27, Robert Fico stated that Ukraine does not plan to resume the Druzhba pipeline and allegedly refused to allow the commission in.
Orban also sent to the President of Ukraine a letter with harsh language, demanding “more respect for Hungary”.
In addition, he stated an alleged “Ukrainian threat” to Hungary’s energy infrastructure and announced his intention to deploy the military to protect it.
