Petition to award ex-mayor of Uman the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously gathers necessary votes

The petition to award the title of Hero of Ukraine to the former mayor of Uman, Oleksandr Tsebriy, who died in the war, received the required number of votes. About this reported his relatives on Oleksandr’s page in social networks.

The corresponding petition was published on the website of the President of Ukraine on July 29, 2024. In a few months, she collected 25,005 votes, which exceeds the necessary threshold for consideration. Now this issue will be submitted to President Volodymyr Zelensky for consideration.

Oleksandr Tsebriy died on July 24, 2024, defending Ukraine. He was born on June 4, 1974 in Uman, where he studied and began his career. After graduating from Uman Secondary School No. 8 and Uman Cooperative School, he received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business economics at Uman State Pedagogical University named after Pavlo Tychyna.

During the years 1996-2004, Oleksandr was engaged in entrepreneurial activities, and since 2005 he headed LLC “Cruise-Auto”. In 2015, he was elected the mayor of Uman, where he was remembered for his desire to develop the city, reforming the economic complex and implementing European standards for residents.

With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Oleksandr joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, becoming the commander of a machine gun platoon in the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Hetman Vyhovsky. There he received the call sign “Mayor”.

For his career and military service, Oleksandr Tsebrii was awarded many awards, in particular, the Order “For Courage” III degree, which he received in March 2024. He was buried on July 27 on the Alley of Heroes in Sofiivska Slobidka after the funeral service in the Holy Trinity Church of the OCU.
