Russia used a new jet drone for a massive strike on Kyiv

During the combined massive attack on Kyiv on June 6, Russian troops applied the new jet drone of its own production “Geran-3”, which was previously reported in the GUR of the MoU.

This explains the report that during the attack, some residents of Kyiv heard a whistle that was not characteristic of the “shaheed” strikes. According to available information, this new jet drone was shot down and burned, but a small jet engine was found among its wreckage, which explains the unusual sound recorded.

“The wreckage of the engine itself is actually all that allows us to objectively talk about this drone, because its remains are quite fragmented. Because of this, it is currently impossible to say for sure whether this was the Shahed-238 jet that was shown in Iran back in November 2023. Or it is another long-range jet-powered drone that, according to the available description, is similar in shape to the Shahed. – experts explain.

One of the blocks found at the crash site indicates that the jet drone has common components with the basic design of the Shahed-136. This is the avionics panel responsible for loading the flight task, starting the engine and the operation of other systems of the drone.

Analysts assume that we are talking about the original Shahed-238 jet or a drone assembled in the Russian Federation based on Iranian technologies using existing components — panels and programming systems.

It will be recalled that in February 2025, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced the establishment of production in Russia of an analogue of the Shahed-238 kamikaze jet drone called “Geranium-3”. According to their data, Geran-3 is capable of developing a flight speed of up to 550-600 km/h, which is provided by the Iranian small-sized Tolou-10/13 engine, which is an unlicensed copy of the Czech PBS TJ100.
