Poland deploys 40,000 troops on the border with Belarus and the Russian Federation

Poland has decided to deploy about 40,000 troops near the borders with Belarus and Russia due to the escalation of the situation after Russian drones violated the country’s airspace on September 10. This was reported by TVP publication.

The reason for this decision was also the joint Russian-Belarusian exercises “Zapad-2025”, in which tens of thousands of military personnel are expected to participate. It was this perspective that forced Warsaw to strengthen its forces near the eastern border.

“Poland was preparing for maneuvers “West-2025” for many months. The Polish Army conducted exercises involving more than 30,000 Polish soldiers as well as Allied soldiers to respond adequately. Let’s remember that “West-2025” – these are strategic exercises, – said the Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland, Cesar Tomczyk.

At the same time, he emphasized the fears of political leaders that these exercises could become a prerequisite for Russian aggression against NATO and EU countries.

We will remind you that Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said at the beginning of the week that during these exercises, Russia and Belarus will rehearse “very aggressive scenarios,” comparing them to the maneuvers that preceded the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008 and the start of the war against Ukraine.

At the same time, from September 10 to December 9, flight restrictions were introduced in the eastern regions of Poland along the borders with Belarus and Ukraine. This decision was made in view of national security in accordance with the resolution of the Minister of Infrastructure, which provides for the restriction of air traffic for a period of up to three months.
