Poland tightens control over money transfers from Ukrainians
Poland has tightened financial control over money transfers received by Ukrainians. The country’s tax service has begun to more carefully check even small amounts if the transfer does not indicate its purpose. Such actions may be part of measures to combat shadow income and tax evasion.
Lawyers explain that regular cash receipts without an explanation of the purpose — regardless of the amount — can be considered hidden income. In this case, tax authorities have the right to demand confirmation of the origin of the funds or even initiate an audit.
One of the most serious consequences of such situations may be the temporary blocking of a bank account. According to Polish law, an account can be frozen for up to 72 hours, and if the tax authorities consider the transactions suspicious, the restrictions can be extended to three months. During this time, the account holder will not have access to their money.
Transfers from relatives, friends or private individuals without explanation are at risk. Such transactions can be interpreted as payment for unofficial work or other undeclared activities. This is especially true for Ukrainians who work in Poland unofficially or partially legally.
Experts advise always indicating the specific purpose of each transfer, for example: “financial assistance from family”, “rent payment” or “debt repayment”. This will reduce the risk of suspicion from the tax authorities and help avoid unpleasant consequences.
Ukrainians who temporarily or permanently reside in Poland are recommended to be careful with financial transactions and not leave transfers without explanation. Even a small amount without a specified purpose can be a reason for blocking the account and conducting an audit.
Experts believe that such steps by the Polish authorities are associated with a general strengthening of control over the movement of funds in the country. This is especially relevant given the significant number of foreign workers, among whom many are Ukrainian citizens. Thus, Poland seeks to reduce the level of illegal earnings and tax evasion.
