Poland will spend more than 2.5 billion dollars on strengthening the border with Belarus
Forest plantations, fences, fortifications and changing the terrain – all these are the plans of the Polish government to strengthen the border with Belarus. The neighboring country is going to spend 10 billion zlotys, or about 2.55 billion dollars, on this project.
The plan for the construction of defensive structures was named “Eastern Shield”. It provides for the construction of fortifications along the perimeter of the entire land border of Poland with Belarus (about 400 kilometers).
“We want our border to be safe in peacetime and impassable in time of war,” the Prime Minister said. Donald Tusk at a military event in Krakow dedicated to the anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino.
In 2022, Poland has already built a 5.5-meter fence on the border. However, another wave of illegal migration forced the country’s government to resort to new measures to prevent illegal entry into Poland.
Tusk also expects that the European Investment Bank will announce the financing of the country’s 500 million zlotys for satellite monitoring tools in the coming days. The system is expected to become part of a European air defense system similar to Israel’s Iron Dome.
