Policeman shot dead in Sloviansk during document check

In Sloviansk, during the checking of documents of a suspicious man, an attack on police officers occurred. At about 11:30, the man opened fire on the police squad, after which he fled the scene. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.

Police Captain Oleg Zakharenko, a senior police officer of Police Department No. 4 of the Kramatorsk District Police Department, died on the spot as a result of the shooting. Currently, all relevant services are working at the scene of the murder, and operational measures are underway to establish the whereabouts and detain the attacker.

Earlier, on January 27, the head of the National Police of Ukraine Ivan Vyhivskyi reported on another attack on law enforcement officers in the Cherkasy region. Then the man, who was wanted on suspicion of murder, opened aimed fire on police officers during the detention.

As a result, four law enforcement officers were killed, another was injured and hospitalized. The attacker was later eliminated by special forces.
