Power engineers have restored power to the Zaporizhzhia NPP

Energy workers managed to restore power supply to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. This was reported by Minister of Energy Svitlana Grinchuk.

“This allowed the plant to be brought out of the complete – tenth – blackout mode, in which it had been for the last month,”, Grinchuk noted.

The power supply to the plant was restored after the completion of repairs to the 750 kV “Dniprovska” power transmission line. Currently, repair work is underway on the 330 kV “Ferrosplavna” line. According to the minister, during this time, the safety of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant was ensured only thanks to the operation of emergency diesel generators.

“This created an unprecedented threat to the nuclear and radiation safety of not only Ukraine, but also the entire European continent”, she emphasized.

Hrynchuk emphasized that the cause of the month-long power outage was the actions of the Russian occupation forces, who systematically shell and damage the power lines connecting the ZNPP with the Ukrainian power system.

“42 times since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian power engineers have restored the power lines to the plant. At the same time, the only way to guarantee long-term nuclear safety is the complete demilitarization, deoccupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and its return to the full legal control of the Ukrainian operator, Energoatom reminded.
