Prince Andrew renounces all titles amid allegations of ties to Jeffrey Epstein
Prince Andrew, brother of King Charles III, has announced that he is voluntarily giving up the title of Duke of York and all royal honors. This decision was made against the background of the scandal and allegations of ties to financier Jeffrey Epstein. This is reported by the BBC.
Prince Andrew officially stated that after consultations with the king and other members of the royal family, he would resign from his titles and awards:
“We have concluded that the constant accusations against me are distracting from the work that His Majesty and the Royal Family do. With His Majesty’s consent, we feel that I must now take another step. As such, I will no longer use my title or the awards I have been awarded.
He also stressed that he continues to deny all allegations against him. At the same time, his daughters – Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie – retain their titles.
King Charles III considered stripping his brother of his titles due to the serious reputational risks to the monarchy. Prince Andrew has been virtually removed from public life since 2019 after allegations of his close ties to Epstein emerged in the media.
Although Andrew himself claimed that he had stopped communicating with Epstein in 2010, journalistic investigations have uncovered emails that indicate that their contacts continued, but in complete secrecy.
As a reminder, Jeffrey Epstein is an American financier and billionaire who was accused of organizing a network of sexual exploitation of underage girls in the 2000s. He was accused of recruiting and holding dozens of victims, often using intermediaries. Epstein was linked to numerous influential politicians, businessmen and show business figures, making the case one of the most high-profile in the United States.
In 2019, he was arrested on charges of human trafficking and sexual exploitation of minors. That same year, Epstein was found dead in his cell in a New York prison, officially a suicide. His death sparked a wave of scandals and numerous conspiracy theories, as many of the people involved in the case had high political and social status.
