Prosthetic microclinics are being created in Ukraine for rehabilitation after amputations

In Ukraine a project to strengthen the health care system in the field of rehabilitation after amputations is being implemented. It provides for the creation and development of prosthetic microclinics in the regions, as well as the launch of a production center in Lviv. The initiative is carried out within the framework of grant agreements between Ukraine and France, signed on April 1, 2025, in the amount of more than 51 million euros.

The main goal of the project is to increase the capacity of the health care system in the field of rehabilitation after amputations, to create a network of microclinics with modern equipment for prosthetics, as well as to train specialists capable of working according to new standards.

The total budget of the initiative is more than 4 million euros. Of these, more than 2.47 million euros are directed to Lviv, where a production center and a prosthetic microclinic are being created, as well as training is organized on the basis of the Lviv National Medical University named after Danylo Halytskyi. The installation of equipment is being completed here, including 20 modern 3D printers and production machines, which will make it possible to manufacture up to 600 prostheses per month. This will make the center one of the largest in Europe.

On the basis of the university microclinic, a six-week training for 16 specialists in rehabilitation after amputations has already started. Thanks to the course, they will be able to work with the latest equipment and provide patients with high-quality prosthetic services.

Ukrainian orthotists-prosthetists underwent a two-week training under the guidance of French experts. At the same time, preparations are underway for the launch of microclinics in other regions: in Poltava, the necessary equipment has already been delivered and organizational work is ongoing, and in the Kyiv region, the preparatory stage is underway. The budget of each regional project is about 800,000 euros.

Each microclinic will have an area of about 80 m² and will include all the necessary premises for staff work and patient comfort: consulting rooms, a walking room with prosthesis testing, a reception room, a waiting room, sanitary rooms and a shower for doctors.

The program is implemented within the framework of the intergovernmental grant agreement between France and Ukraine, which covers several sectors, including health care. The document was signed on June 7, 2024, ratified by the Verkhovna Rada on August 20, and entered into force on October 22, 2024. The decision on implementation was made by the Strategic Investment Council on October 29.

Financing is carried out by the French government within the program “Fonds Ukraine”. Résilience Orthopédics has been selected as the executor, and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine is coordinating the project. The introduction of this initiative will make it possible to form a network of modern prosthetic microclinics in Ukraine and provide patients after amputations with access to high-quality rehabilitation.
