Zelensky met with Scholz in the USA: Germany will not lift restrictions on Ukrainian strikes deep into Russian territory

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi held a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his visit to New York on September 23. The leaders discussed further support for Ukraine and preparations for the second Peace Summit. The meeting took place at the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN.

As informs the press service of the President’s Office, Zelensky and Sholtz agreed on steps for further cooperation within the framework of international formats. They discussed in detail the implementation of the decisions made during the first Peace Summit and preparations for the next stage of this event. The main issue was the approach of a just peace in Ukraine, for which it is necessary to preserve the unity of the international community.

“Met with Olaf Scholz. We talked about how to make a just peace closer. The main thing is to maintain unity. Our Peace Formula was created just for this, and we held a successful first Peace Summit”, – noted Zelensky.

The President of Ukraine also expressed his gratitude to Germany and personally to Olaf Scholz for their comprehensive support, especially for the provided air defense systems that help protect Ukrainian cities from Russian attacks. He emphasized that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Germany has provided aid amounting to about 35 billion euros.

During the meeting, the security situation in Ukraine was also discussed, in particular the current situation at the front and the needs of the Ukrainian army.

Before the start of negotiations with Zelenskyi, Olaf Scholz said that Germany does not plan to lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons for strikes on Russian territory. He emphasized that this position is fundamental both for the German government and for him personally.
