Rada adopts law banning mobilization of men aged 18-25

On Wednesday, October 9, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine finally adopted a law exempting Ukrainians under the age of 25 from mobilization. About this reported People’s Deputy from “European Solidarity” Oleksiy Goncharenko.

“The council banned the mobilization of 18-25 year olds! Draft law 11379-d was adopted as a whole”Honcharenko noted.

He also added that 311 people’s deputies voted for this law.

According to the document, Ukrainians under the age of 25, who were previously recognized as “limitedly suitable” for military service and remained on the military register, are now equated with conscripts and exempted from mobilization. Men aged 18-25 will be able to be called up for service only with their consent. In addition, the law provides for the possibility of transferring already mobilized persons who fall under this category to the reserve.

Today, mobilization concerns men aged 25 to 60. Previously, the lower limit of the mobilization age was 27 years, but on April 2, 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed a law that lowered this age to 25 years.

In July 2024, the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Dmytro Lazutkin, stated that there was no urgent need to lower the mobilization age, because a significant number of citizens had updated their military registration data.
