Regular groups of children from the Rivne region were sent for rehabilitation
Among the many challenges that Ukraine faced during the war, children attract special attention. Many of them witnessed devastating events, lost relatives or were displaced due to hostilities. In this situation, taking care of their physical and psychological health became a priority task for the state and the public. Today, children of war are able to receive support and, at least for a while, escape from the circumstances that accompany them every day, thanks to rehabilitation programs. Another group of children from the Rivne region has already gone to the “Artek” centers in the Kyiv region and Transcarpathia to rest and recover after difficult experiences.
Who can get support
The state provides the opportunity to improve the health of children from vulnerable categories who especially need care. In particular, such categories include:
- children from families of combatants — children of defenders of Ukraine who are experiencing loss or long separation from their parents;
- children who have lost their parents or those who have gone missing due to hostilities;
- children of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who were forced to leave their homes together with their families;
- children from low-income families — families that do not always have the resources to ensure comfortable conditions for life and development;
- orphans and children deprived of parental care, who for various reasons were left without the care of adults.
Ensuring the rehabilitation of children from these categories becomes an important social step that allows overcoming some of the consequences of war, providing children with support in a difficult period of their lives.
How health care is organized for the children of the Rivne region
For in words head of the Rivne Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Koval, this year already 608 children from the region were able to rest and recover in various children’s centers. The state covers all costs, providing children with free stay in such well-known recreation centers as “Artek”. Health trips are carried out in several shifts throughout the year, and this opportunity will be provided to children until the end of the year.
Where health changes take place
Children from the Rivne region have the opportunity to relax in the “Artek” center, located in the Kyiv region and Transcarpathia. This is not just a resort vacation – “Artek” has been a place specializing in children’s health, rehabilitation and comprehensive development for many decades.
Changes in “Artek” include:
- physical rehabilitation programs;
- psychological support and consultations;
- cultural and entertainment events that help children feel supported and cared for;
- sports classes, clubs, excursions and development programs that contribute to the socialization and expansion of children’s worldview.
How to register a child for rehabilitation
In order for the child to be able to participate in such a program, family representatives should contact the social protection unit in their territorial community or the regional specialized department. They can help with the preparation of the necessary documents and advice on the procedure for enrolling in a health program.
Why recovery is necessary for children of war
Children who have experienced difficult experiences during the war often face such psychological problems as:
- anxiety and stress – due to a constant feeling of danger and loss of stability;
- depression and apathy are the result of experienced fears and losses;
- social disorientation – due to the loss of the usual environment, friends and relatives.
Recovery and rehabilitation allow children to find support among their peers, receive counseling from psychologists, distract themselves from negative events and restore psychological balance. It is important to understand that the children of war are a generation that will feel the consequences of the current events for many years to come, and that is why creating a safe environment and providing opportunities for recovery are important elements of the state’s social policy.
In the conditions of war, when the childhood of many Ukrainian children is overshadowed by experiences and losses, taking care of their health becomes a priority task for the state. Health trips to centers such as “Artek” become the necessary support that helps children regain joy and serenity. This is not only an opportunity for relaxation, but also an important step towards mental health recovery and rehabilitation.
