Russia uses strategic bombers transferred by Ukraine 25 years ago
The Russian Federation uses strategic bombers that were transferred by Ukraine in 1999 as part of an intergovernmental agreement. This case became part of the agreements on repayment of the debt for the consumed Russian gas. About this it is said in the investigation of journalists of the “Schemes” project.
Journalists linked the transferred aircraft to those currently in use by the Russian military by analyzing serial numbers from the archived agreement, international air registries and data from the General Directorate of Intelligence (GUD). At least six of the Tu-160 aircraft transferred to Ukraine are currently in service with the Russian Armed Forces. They participate in the task of mass missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine.

Among the transferred Tu-160s were aircraft that received new names after the transfer, including “Mykola Kuznetsov”, “Vasyl Senko”, “Olexandr Novikov” and others. It also turned out that Ukraine also handed over three Tu-95MS aircraft, which in Russia were renamed “Krasnoyarsk”, “Sevastopol” and “Izborsk”. These planes, once part of the Ukrainian aviation, are now actively used by Russia in the war against Ukraine, as evidenced by investigations and Ukrainian intelligence data.

It was also possible to identify some Russian pilots piloting former Ukrainian bombers.
“Military officer Oleksiy Pechkaryev was previously identified as the commander of the Tu-95MS “Izborsk” aircraft, which was transferred to the Russian Federation by the Ukrainian authorities. During the full-scale invasion, he was the head of the combat training department of the 22nd Air Division. In the summer of 2022, at one of the actions in support of the so-called The SVO said that Russian “soldiers on land and in the air are crushing reborn nazism”, says the message.
