According to Galushchenko, the situation in Ukraine’s energy system is “quite difficult” due to Russia’s constant attacks. Damages from attacks on energy facilities have already exceeded $1 billion, and this amount continues to grow. The objects of thermal and hydrogen generation, as well as electricity transmission systems, were the most affected.
Despite the difficulties, the energy system is balanced thanks to favorable weather conditions and the use of renewable energy sources. Ukraine lost 7 GW of electricity generation capacity as a result of the latest shelling. President Zelenskyy calls on Ukraine to provide modern air defense equipment to protect the energy infrastructure from attacks.
Russian attacks on March 22 and 29 caused significant damage to the Ukrainian energy system.
As a result of the attacks, Dnipro HPP, Kharkiv TPP-5, Trypil TPP, Zmiiv TPP and other facilities were damaged or destroyed. “Centrenergo” lost 100% of generation due to the destruction of the Trypil TPP.
