Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure led to power outages in five regions
The situation in Ukraine’s energy system remains tense due to the consequences of massive missile and drone strikes carried out the day before and earlier. Energy workers are working continuously to restore damaged facilities and restore electricity supply to consumers. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
On the night of December 24, Russian troops again attacked energy infrastructure. In the morning, new power outages were recorded in Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. Repair crews of regional energy companies continue emergency and restoration work.
Across the country, from 00:00 to 23:59, hourly power outage schedules, as well as capacity restrictions for industrial consumers and businesses, are in effect throughout the day. Current information is published on the official resources of distribution system operators.
On the night and morning of December 23, the ninth large-scale attack on Ukraine’s power system since the beginning of the year took place. The most severe damage was sustained by facilities in the western regions, leaving the Rivne, Ternopil, and Khmelnytskyi regions almost completely without electricity.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko stated that: “During the massive strike on December 23, the Russian army used more than 600 drones and dozens of missiles.”.
Due to significant damage, Ukrainian nuclear power plants were forced to temporarily reduce their capacity.
