SBI exposes large-scale scheme of illegal mineral water extraction by trade unions (video)
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) conducted a number of procedural actions within the framework of the investigation of illegal mineral extraction of national importance, in which the managers of one of the trade unions of Ukraine and several legal entities were involved. About this reported in the press service of the DBR.
During the searches, accounting documents containing evidence of violations were seized, and numerous violations related to the extraction of mineral water were also recorded. According to the court’s decision, the wells from which water was extracted illegally were seized.
According to the legislation of Ukraine, the property of all-union organizations of the former USSR, including mineral resources, belongs to the state. However, the investigation established that the deputy head of trade unions of Ukraine, together with the managers of sanatoriums, organized an illegal scheme for the production and sale of mineral water. The participants of this conspiracy not only appropriated mineral resources, but also realized them commercially, violating established limits and undercutting prices for selected private companies.
Several private enterprises were involved in this scheme, which were granted privileges to purchase mineral water on favorable terms, which led to significant losses for the state.
The investigation is being conducted under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which include misappropriation of property, abuse of power, official negligence, illegal mining of minerals, as well as the creation of a criminal organization. All those involved in this scheme face up to 12 years in prison.
