Scientists warn that the development of AI threatens the extinction of humanity

The probability that humanity will die due to the rapid development of artificial intelligence is 95% – about this to a British newspaper The Times said former Google engineer Nate Soares, who is now one of the industry’s fiercest critics. According to him, we fly to the abyss at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour and do almost nothing to stop. Soares urged humanity to radically change the direction of technological progress, otherwise catastrophe will become inevitable.

Soares’ concerns are shared by the most authoritative voices in the tech world. Among the signatories of a public statement on the need to immediately curb AI are Nobel laureate Jeffrey Ginton, mathematician Joshua Bengio, as well as top managers of leading companies in the field of artificial intelligence: OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind. In this statement, they emphasize that “reducing the risk of human extinction through AI must become a global priority — alongside the fight against pandemics and nuclear war.”

We are not talking about a hypothetical distant threat, but the real dangers associated with the development of the so-called superintelligence (ASI) – a machine system capable of independent decision-making, planning, acting on the basis of ulterior motives and even manipulating people. Such an AI, scientists warn, can get out of control, and its “brain” will be opaque even to its developers.

Experts believe that the danger lies not only in the possibility of man-made catastrophe, but also in the gradual destruction of human autonomy. In a world where all key decisions are made by AI, the human role may become marginal or even redundant. Technology will displace humans from decision-making, economic management, security, medicine, and ultimately political life.

“This is not a fantasy, but a very real scenario that is already taking shape.” scientists emphasize.

They demand that governments, companies and civil society immediately recognize the threat, create global control mechanisms, stop the AI arms race and focus on creating clear boundaries for the development of this technology.
